Rock Music — Major Influence on Culture, Fashion and Social Attitude
Rock music fall under the genre of popular music. Rock music in its purest form consists of three chords which are a strong, insistent back beat, and a catchy melody. Rock music when blended with folk it created folk rock, with jazz to create jazz-rock-fusion and with blues, to create blues-rock. There are various subgenres in rock music such as punk rock, progressive rock, hard rock, glam rock, soft rock, hardcore punk, new wave, alternative rock, nu metal, indie rock, Britpop, and grunge.

Rock group or rock band is a group of musicians who have got their specialization in rock music. This rock group generally consists of bass guitarist, lead singer, electric guitarist, forming a quartet and a drummer. In 1955, “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley became the first rock and roll song, which topped the Billboard Magazine’s main sales and airplay charts. It opened the door across the world for the new wave of popular culture. In January 1964 with the success of the Beatles “I want to Hold Your Hand” British rock, broke through to mainstream popularity in the United States.
February 9 is considered as a milestone in American Pop Culture, by the first appearance of the Ed Sullivan Show. The Beatles were the biggest selling rock band of all time and they were subsequently followed by various British bands. Garage rock peaked both artistically and commercially around 1966 and lasted till seventies by MC5 and The Stooges, who provided a much more aggressive style.
Punk rock developed in the United States and the United Kingdom between 1974 and 1976. A large number of traditional rock bands adapted to the video age and hugely profited from MTV’s airplay.
